Big news for yo…

13 Sep

Big news for you all today. I was promoted to senior developer at Pillow Power Studios! The position comes with a lot of new responsibilities so I hope I’m up to the task! With this new role I’ll surely be able to afford the latest in advanced mobile gadgetry. But compensation won’t arrive for a while, so I’m stuck with the entertainment of the early 20th century to occupy my free time.

You guessed it; I’m beginning D.H. Lawrence’s 1913 classic Sons and Lovers. Despite the allegations of obscenity it’s a good read so far, and most importantly, it keeps its audience constantly reminded of the power of the pillow. When the¬†boisterous coal miner Walter Morel comes home in the evening to his wife Gertrude, family tensions often run high, occasionally even leading to violence. But the air always clears as soon as one or both of them can get to bed and enter into sleep. I take this excerpt as a true endorsement of pillow power:

The warmth, the security and peace of soul, the utter comfort from the touch of the other, knits the sleep, so that it takes the body and soul completely in its healing. Paul lay against her and slept, and got better; whilst she, always a bad sleeper, fell later on into a profound sleep that seemed to give her faith.

Good night everyone!
